Our Cat-Friendly Practice serves the Greensboro NC area

Did you know that in the United States, there are almost 10 million more owned cats than dogs? We love our cats! However, cats visit the veterinarian half as often as their canine counterparts.

At Guilford-Jamestown Veterinary Hospital, we know it can be stressful for your pet to visit. Our feline patients are especially sensitive to travel, new environments, and new people. Many of our cats have never been out of the house! That is why we have worked to achieve Silver Level status as a Cat Friendly Practice. By working to make our hospital and our staff more accommodating to our feline patients, we hope to make visits more enjoyable for everyone.

What does it Mean to be a Cat Friendly Practice?

Stress is one of the top reasons for skipped or less frequent visits for cats. Gaining the designation as a cat friendly practice means we at GJVH understand the unique needs of cats and have put in place protocols to relieve stress and ensure a smooth visit. At our hospital, you will experience cat-friendly features such as:

  • Skilled staff: Our staff is well versed in the special needs of cats. We have identified low stress handling methods to reduce anxiety and prevent escalation of a stressed patient.
  • Individualized health care: We know that each cat is different, and our doctors and staff work to tailor the health care to your pet’s needs. Yearly visits and preventative screenings are vital to catching feline conditions before they become a problem.
  • Low stress environment: We have designated areas specific for cats to help reduce noise and interaction with other pets. We also have equipment available just for our feline friends to make the visit as efficient as possible.

Guilford Jamestown Veterinary Hospital became a designated Cat Friendly Practice by proving that we have taken specific extra steps to assure that we understand a cat’s special needs and have implemented feline friendly standards. We have a designated cat advocate, which are staff members that have a special interest in our feline friends and are advocates for the best possible visits for our cats.
